My father is one of the most amazing people I know. Today he turns 57 years old. He hates birthdays and doesn't like to celebrate it, but I want to celebrate him. My dad is the most amazing dad a girl could ever ask for and I really mean that. He is amazing in so many ways.
My dad has always been there for me. He has helped me out of so many situations that I have gotten myself into and does it all because he says that's what dads should do. Even when I was doing things he didn't approve of or like, he still loved me and helped me whenever I needed it.
My dad was great growing up. Last night I told Vincent a story my dad told us about a little girl who wanted to go to church but had nothing in her closet except a bunch of dog bones. I told this story but couldn't get all of the binks right (you'd have to have heard the story). He made me promise every birthday that it would be my last one and that I wouldn't get any older. Sorry I couldn't keep that one dad. But the great thing about me growing up is that now Vincent gets to know my dad, the greatest grandpa in the world. And the new baby will get to know him too.
My dad is a hero. I don't think I knew this until recently. He's not a hero in a 'my dad's better than your dad kind of way'. He really is a hero. He came close to giving his life for this country many times and pays for his service every single day of his life. He pays for it with every walk up the stairs and every pounding headache.
I've always been my dad's best girl and hope that never ceases. He brings our family close together. I think I have a closer family than most, in the fact that we love being around each other so much that we usually choose it over all the other options that we could choose.
It is very rare to get a picture of my dad but I have managed to find a few in the last few minutes.
